Toyota Tacoma EV
What To Expect
Toyota recently unveiled concept vehicles representing its next generation of EVs. One appears to be a midsized truck bearing a striking resemblance to the Tacoma. Although the brand hasn’t confirmed if the model will be called the Tacoma EV or when it might be released in the United States, it could be an exciting prospect.
Prior to its 2024 redesign, the Tacoma lagged behind its competitors in the fuel economy department. However, the latest Tacoma generation takes after the larger Tundra and adds a hybrid powertrain. Even though Toyota’s focus over the last several years has been more toward hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as opposed to EVs, the notion of an electrified pickup wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
While we don’t know much about a potential Tacoma EV, we do know that there should be no shortage of demand for one. According to Autolist, the hypothetical Tacoma EV took the top spot over existing EV pickups like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T in a buyer appeal survey.
Toyota‘s next EV pickup could emerge with its so-called Beyond Zero (bZ) family of electric vehicles. Sadly, a timeframe has not yet been released for the truck. As a result, we don’t yet know if a potential Tacoma EV could arrive as a 2023 or 2024 vehicle. The brand says it plans to introduce at least 30 EVs globally by 2030.
2024 Toyota Tacoma EV Price & Release Date
We’ll have to wait to know more about what to officially expect in terms of Tacoma production dates and pricing.
Assuming the Tacoma EV indeed arrives in the US, we expect it to carry a premium over the gas-only and hybrid models. Toyota hasn’t made Tacoma Hybrid pricing available yet, but gas Tacoma pricing ranges from $32,995 to $53,595.
At that rate, we might see higher trim Tacoma EV models near or eclipse the $70,000 plateau, but we’ll get a better idea of pricing once more details about the pickup are finalized
Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
