2024 Volkswagen ID.4 What To Expect

The Volkswagen ID.4 was introduced as an all-new electric vehicle for 2021 and still feels relatively new. For 2023, the ID.4 received a new base Standard model, a Pro S Plus trim, and a 12-inch infotainment display. VW also moved production of the electric SUV to its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, making the ID.4 one of the few vehicles to be eligible for the full federal tax credit. Although it’s a carryover model, the 2024 ID.4 sees a handful of significant updates. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4.

The 2024 ID.4 retains its exterior styling from 2023. It features a simple exterior design with rounded edges, oval headlights, a slim grille that connects the headlights, and a protruding front fascia with a large air intake. Along the side, the SUV has black body cladding and a beltline that sweeps upward as it reaches the rear of the vehicle. At the back, the ID.4 features oval taillights that are connected by a horizontal light bar, a small rear spoiler, and a tiered liftgate design.

The ID.4’s interior features a modern, high-tech design. The dashboard has simple lines, few physical controls, a small digital instrument cluster positioned on top of the dash, and a central touchscreen on top of the dash. Ambient lighting is integrated directly into the dash, while the lack of central transmission tunnels creates a spacious feel for passengers in the front and frees up space for small items. While the ID.4 has some physical controls on the dashboard and steering wheel, they’re all touch-capacitive controls that can be tricky to use.

When it comes to tech features, the ID.4 comes with a 12-inch touchscreen, a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, voice recognition, four USB ports, seven audio speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless charging pad as standard. New for 2024 is an upgraded 12.9-inch touchscreen for ID.4s fitted with the larger 82kWh battery.

2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Engine & Specs

Volkswagen offers the 2023 ID.4 with three different powertrains, but this is changing for 2024. The base trim still comes with a single electric motor that makes 201 horsepower, a 62-kWh battery pack, and rear-wheel drive. This configuration has 209 miles of range. The mid-level powertrain got axed for the 2024 model, and it will see a major upgrade to its 82 kWh batteries instead. With the new performance drive unit, the RWD model now makes 282 hp and AWD makes 335 hp. This upgrade boosts acceleration and enhances the range on models with the larger battery pack.

2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Safety

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 offers the same standard safety features as the current SUV that’s on sale. The ID.4 currently comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, park assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, parking sensors, and automatic high-beam assist as standard.

2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Price

Without any changes, we didn’t expect pricing for the electric SUV to increase much. The 2023 ID.4 currently ranges from $40,290 to $52,740 with destination.

The 2024 ID.4 prices top out much higher than last year’s models, though. Pricing for the Electric SUV starts at an MSRP of $39,735 before destination.

Standard VW destination charges of $1,425 are included in the prices on the chart below.
