2025 Honda Pilot Review: Redesign, Specs, and Price

Posted on

Mid-size three-row SUVs like the 2025 Honda Pilot are popular with families, thanks in part to their spacious cabins that give equal capacity for both passengers and cargo. The Pilot’s boxy appearance, nor its features or capabilities, do. The Pilot is powered by a 285-hp V-6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel drive is voluntary, but the front tires are driven by the basic configuration.

Most customers will opt for one of the Pilot’s mid-level trims, and they will find it is a pleasant SUV in which to conduct errands or take road trips. The Pilot’s sophisticated road protocol, smooth-running V-6 engine, and current tech make it a decent pick amongst mid-size crossovers, but competitors like the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L all offer comparable—and in some cases, less upscale—packages.

What Is New in 2025?

The fourth-generation Pilot received no significant modifications in its second season on the market. It’s available in the same trim levels and with the same gas-engine powertrain as the 2024 model in 2025.

Honda Pilot Interior

The interior of the 2025 Pilot features a roomy and stylish cabin that stresses comfort and practicality. It has an innovative infotainment system with a big touchscreen that provides smartphone connectivity, navigation, and entertainment. Aside from that, this SUV has plenty of three-row cargo capacity and versatile seating combinations.

The three rows of seats on all models can accommodate up to eight people, although the EX-L trim has optional second-row captain’s chairs, which lowers the number of passengers to seven; on the TrailSport, captain’s chairs are standard.

Honda claims that eight of the Pilot’s cupholders can handle large 32-ounce water bottles and that the cargo capacity is larger than ever. With all three rows of chairs up, there’s adequate cargo capacity; we squeezed six carry-on-sized boxes behind the third row, which is two more than we could stow in a Kia Telluride.

Honda Pilot Colors

Building upon the 2024 lineup, the 2025 Honda Pilot is likely to retain the same exterior colors:

  • Diffused Sky Blue Pearl
  • Platinum White Pearl
  • Radiant Red Metallic
  • Obsidian Blue Pearl
  • Sonic Gray Pearl
  • Modern Steel Metallic
  • Lunar Silver Metallic
  • Crystal Black Pearl

2025 Honda Pilot Engine

The Pilot is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 285 horsepower and a 10-speed automated transmission. Although the SUV is predominantly front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive is an option. While the Pilot’s V-6 engine isn’t exceptionally speedy, its throttle response is linear, and the 10-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly.

The toughest TrailSport model demonstrated its ability to handle slightly challenging terrain on real-world off-road trails near Breckenridge, Colorado, and again in Sedona, Arizona. However, Honda has not produced a rock-crawling super-machine capable of tackling Moab alongside Broncos, Wranglers, and 4Runners. The Pilot Trailsport sports a 1.0-inch raise suspension, steel skid plates, all-terrain tires, a hill-descent control system, and a tuned all-wheel drive engine with a Trail driving mode.

Honda Pilot MPG

According to EPA estimates, the Pilot can get up to 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the interstate. We tested a 2023 Pilot TrailSport on our 75 mph highway fuel efficiency route, and with its stronger all-terrain tires and additional off-road protection, it achieved 22 mpg. That comes in just short of other three-row SUVs with V-6 engines that get 24 mpg, including the Kia Telluride. In the same test, the Pilot Elite that we drove, which rolls on less abrasive tires, achieved 27 mpg. Go to the EPA website to learn more about the Pilot’s fuel efficiency.
