What To Expect

Hyundai has introduced a refreshed IONIQ 5 for the South Korean market, which could bring a few changes to the U.S. version of the 2025 IONIQ 5. Additionally, the high-performance IONIQ 5 N will be added to the lineup. The new IONIQ 5 N embodies the brand’s desire to create vehicles that are a step above what they’ve done before, with improved performance and customizable features while still retaining the automaker’s flavor.

The South Korean market Hyundai IONIQ 5 received a refresh with a slightly updated front fascia, new exterior colors, updated bumpers, a larger rear spoiler, and a new status indicator for the charging system. The largest change to the IONIQ 5’s exterior design for 2025 will be the addition of a rear window wiper. The changes have made the IONIQ 5 0.8 inches longer than the current model that’s on sale in the U.S.

The high-performance 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will not only have a more aggressive look than the regular car but functional performance additions as well, similar to the Elantra N and Kona N. The N features wider fenders to accommodate wider tires, larger air ducts for improved cooling, bigger brakes, larger fenders, a more aggressive front bumper, and even a larger rear wing.

The interior design of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 isn’t expected to change dramatically compared to the current model that’s on sale. Based on the refresh for South Korea, the IONIQ 5 is expected to receive a new steering wheel, a new sliding center console, and new physical features for vehicle controls.

On the tech front, the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to gain Hyundai’s new Digital Key 2 system and the automaker’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit software system. The latter brings over-the-air software updates and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Engine & Specs

According to reports, the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to gain more battery capacity. The current IONIQ 5 comes with a standard 58-kWh battery pack and a larger 77.4-kWh battery pack. The IONIQ 5 currently has a standard range of 220 miles and up to 303 miles of range. The 2025 IONIQ 5 is expected to gain an extra 7-kWh of battery capacity, bringing battery capacity up to 65 kWh and 84.4 kWh. This is expected to bring more range.

Performance should remain the same for the non-N 2025 IONIQ 5. The current SUV is available with a single rear electric motor that makes 168 horsepower with the small battery pack and 225 hp with the large battery pack. The dual-motor IONIQ 5 has two electric motors with 320 hp.

The most notable changes though come to the powertrain, with the N developing up to 641 hp with its Grin Boost function engaged (standard output is 601 hp). The IONIQ 5 N also features upgraded cooling and regenerative braking systems compared to the standard model. The N also features a unique steering rack which Hyundai calls its Rack-Mounted Motor-Driven Power Steering System, which tightens the steering ratio and improves feedback over the standard model. An electronic limited-slip differential is also standard, as well as simulated shifts and engine noise to mimic the feel of an internal combustion-powered performance car.

The IONIQ 5 N, like the rest of the N lineup, is meant to be customizable to drivers’ tastes to set it apart from competitors. For instance, the driving modes include Eco, Normal, Sport, and N to give you the driving experience you want. There is even a drift mode. Among other things, these can adjust steering weight and throttle sensitivity and can alter torque distribution so you can control the bias between the front and rear wheels. This can benefit consumers who drive in winter locations or on mixed-traction surfaces.

If you press another one of the new steering wheel buttons, simulated gearshifts will be added to interrupt the torque to mimic the feel of an internal combustion car. It also makes a tachometer appear on the gauge display, though it’s just to flourish and doesn’t truly correlate to the e-motor speed. As yet another way to make this car suited to specific tastes, Hyundai lets drivers control the sound synthesizer. There are supposedly three different sounds to choose from, but drivers never have to turn it on if they aren’t interested in that effect.

2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Price

Hyundai has yet to release pricing for the 2025 IONIQ 5 range, but the 2024 IONIQ 5’s price starts at $43,175 for the standard range SE and ranges up to $59,775 for the all-wheel drive Limited. They did, however, reveal that the high-performance IONIQ 5 N will carry a starting price of $67,475 (including destination).

It will compete against the Kia EV6, Kia Niro EVFord Mustang Mach-E, and Volkswagen ID.4.
