What To Expect
Mercedes is updating the G-Class for the 2025 model year. While the G-Class will continue to feature the same iconic boxy design and go-anywhere attitude as the original SUV from 1979, it’s getting a few modern touches. Perhaps most notably, an all-electric model is joining the G-Class lineup for 2025. Here’s what we know about the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is getting an updated exterior design for the new model year. The SUV gains new A-pillars, a new grille design, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and an updated roof design. The SUV continues to have a boxy design with chunky bumpers, a high ground clearance, and a spare tire holder on the swingout tailgate. The electric model, called the G580 with EQ Technology, retains the classic G-Class styling, save for a faux grille, unique hood design, and a storage compartment in lieu of the spare tire holder.
The interior design of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class isn’t changing for the 2025 model year. The SUV will continue to have an upscale cabin with rugged touches. Dual screens that are integrated into a single panel dominate the squared-off dashboard.
A hefty grab handle is positioned directly in front of the passenger, while the SUV has circular air vents and robust physical controls. For 2025, the G-Class is getting some new features that include climate-controlled front cupholders and more customization through Mercedes’ Manufaktur service.
On the tech front, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class finally gains Mercedes-Benz’s new MBUX infotainment system. The system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the automaker’s advanced voice assistant, and a touchscreen. Newly available optional features include a wireless charging pad, an updated rear-seat entertainment system with dual 11.6-inch touchscreens, and a new Burmester audio system. The SUV will continue to come with dual 12.3-inch displays.
2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Engine & Specs
The largest change for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class occurs under the SUV’s boxy hood. The gas-powered G-Class adopts a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system with both engines and the SUV doesn’t come with a standard V8 engine anymore.
The base G550 comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that’s paired with a mild-hybrid system. Output is rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. These figures represent a 27-hp increase and a 37 lb-ft of torque decrease from the outgoing twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine.
The AMG G63 continues to come with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that makes 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque but gains the new mild-hybrid system. Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new adaptive suspension system called AMG Active Ride Control for the G63. It utilizes hydraulic anti-roll bars and dampers to help keep the SUV flat while cornering, improve ride comfort on-road by softening things up, and improve wheel articulation when off-roading.
The G-Class EV is powered by four electric motors with a combined output of 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque paired with a 116-kWh battery. The G580 retains a ladder chassis and solid rear axle like its gas counterpart and offers off-road features like low-range gear reduction and G-TURN, which allows the G-Class to turn around on the spot on unpaved surfaces.
2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Safety
When it comes to safety features, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will continue to come with advanced safety features, but the SUV has gained some new features as well. The SUV is available with a new surround-view camera system that provides drivers with a view of what’s under the vehicle. The G-Class also gains a new adaptive cruise control system with lance-centering assist that can automatically adjust the SUV’s speed when cornering on the highway and taking exit ramps.
2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Price
Pricing for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class hasn’t been announced yet. Because of the updates, we expect pricing to be higher than the 2024 model’s MSRP which ranges from $144,150 to $184,150. We’re also expecting a substantial premium for the electric model, which will only be available in the EDITION ONE trim for 2025.
Competitors in the segment include the Land Rover Defender, Lexus LX, Land Rover Range Rover, Bentley Bentayga, Rivian R1S, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
