What To Expect
The 2025 Rivian R1S is expected to arrive for the new model year as a carryover model without any major changes, though Rivian has a few changes in store for the new model year. According to certification documents and forums, the 2025 R1S should arrive with a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a standard heat pump, some new exterior paint colors, new wheel choices, and new interior trim. Here’s what we know about the upcoming 2025 Rivian R1S.
As a carryover model, the 2025 Rivian R1S SUV’s exterior design isn’t expected to change for the upcoming model year. The 2025 R1S is getting some new exterior colors, while some exterior paint schemes have gone up in price. The R1S is expected to continue to have a modern, but rugged design with boxy lines. The smooth front end of the current R1S features dramatic styling with round headlights and an expansive light bar that spans the full width of the front end. At the back, the R1S has thin horizontal taillights that are connected by a bar and blacked-out D-pillars.
Beyond a few new interior trim choices and new interior colors, the interior design of the 2025 Rivian R1S should remain close to the current model that’s on sale. The current R1S features a streamlined design with high-end materials. The sculpted dashboard features two large screens, minimal, controls, and a few angular edges to have a modern look. Thanks to its boxy design and expansive windows, the R1S has an airy cabin. The R1S comes with seating for up to seven people across three rows as standard.
When it comes to tech features, the 2025 Rivian R1S is expected to come with the current SUV’s 16-inch touchscreen and 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Other standard features will include Amazon Alexa, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless charging pad, a 22-speaker Meridian audio system, Bluetooth, and an HD Radio. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay aren’t available on the current R1S and we don’t think Rivian will add smartphone compatibility for the 2025 model year.
2025 Rivian R1S Engine & Specs
The largest change for the 2025 Rivian R1S is the introduction of a new LFP battery pack that was spotted by a forum user on Rivian Forums. The new LFP battery pack will have a capacity of 92.5 kWh and will weigh 1,602 pounds. Rivian will offer all R1S models, including those with the new LFP battery pack, with a standard heat pump. The 92.5-kWh LFP battery pack will be able to charge at up to 210 kW when plugged into a DC fast charger. Rivian will continue to fit the 2025 R1S with a CCS charging plug, as the NACS port will come at a later date.
The 2025 Rivian R1S will continue to have the same powertrains as the current model that’s on sale. The R1S is available with multiple powertrains. All R1S SUVs come with dual electric motors with the standard configuration being rated at 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. The available Performance Dual-Motor AWD configuration is rated at 665 hp and 829 lb-ft of torque. Rivian offers the R1S with four electric motors that bring 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque.
When properly equipped, the R1S can get to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and can tow up to 7,700 pounds. The R1S has excellent off-roading capability with multiple drive modes, height-adjustable air suspension, and up to 15 inches of ground clearance.
With the introduction of the new LFP battery pack, the 2025 R1S should be available in a total of five different batteries. Other battery packs include the Standard, Standard+, Large, and Max. Range for the battery packs range from 270 miles with the Standard, 315 miles with the Standard+, 352 miles with the Large, and 400 miles with the Max.
2025 Rivian R1S Safety
On the safety front, the 2025 Rivian R1S should come with the same standard features as the current SUV that’s on sale. The current R1S comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, a driver-attention monitor, parking sensors, automatic high-beam assist, a surround-view parking camera, and an advanced driver-assist system for highway use.
2025 Rivian R1S Price
Rivian has not confirmed pricing for the 2025 R1S yet. Pricing for the current SUV ranges from $79,800 to $93,800. We expect the new LFP battery pack to bring the R1S SUV’s pricing down.
Competitors in the electric SUV segment include the Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW iX, Lotus Electre, GMC Hummer EV, and Audi Q8 e-tron.
2025 Rivian R1S Release Date
We don’t know when the 2025 Rivian R1S will go on sale. Rivian doesn’t follow traditional model years like other automakers. The R1S could arrive as early as the end of this year. More information on the electric SUV should become available within the next few months.
Please check back for updates as they become available.
