Toyota Prius
What To Expect
The 2025 Toyota Prius will likely arrive as a carryover of the current model, which debuted in 2023 with breakout styling and dramatically improved performance. As always, the upcoming Prius promises exceptional efficiency and proven hybrid technology.
The Prius departs from previous generations with an aggressive stance, contoured body panels, and a sleek profile. The high-tech interior provides room for five and hatchback versatility. Current standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen, the latest version of Toyota‘s Safety Sense system, and app-based remote vehicle controls. Buyers can equip the Prius with a fixed glass roof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, surround-view cameras, and power climate-controlled seats.
2025 Toyota Prius Engine & Specs
The current Prius hybrid systems deliver an enviable balance of performance and efficiency, and we expect them to continue for 2025. The regular Prius starts with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor that produce a combined 194 horsepower and 139lb-ft of torque. Power goes to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive versions carry a second, rear-mounted electric motor that bumps output to 196 hp.
The front-drive Prius in base LE trim is EPA-rated at 57 miles per gallon city, 56 mph highway, and 57 combined. With AWD, the combined rating eases to 54 mpg. The XLE and Limited trims, which carry more equipment, deliver 52 mpg combined, or 49 mpg combined with AWD.
The plug-in Prius Prime is powered by the 2.0-liter engine and two electric motors for a total of 220 hp. Available with front-wheel drive only, the base Prius Prime SE can travel up to 44 miles on electricity alone and is EPA-rated at 127 MPGe combined. The XSE and XLE trims offer up to 39 miles of gas-free travel and a combined EPA rating of 144 MPGe. Recharging a fully depleted battery battery takes about 4 hours on a Level 2 home charger.
2025 Toyota Prius Safety
Every Pruis currently comes with a full complement of driver-assistance features. Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, safe exit warning, and traffic jam assist. Parking sensors and rear automatic braking are standard on the mid-level trims. The top trims are available with surround-view cameras and automated parking. These features will certainly continue for 2025, and some options may convert to standard equipment.
The 2024 Prius is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the institute’s highest designation.
2025 Toyota Prius Price
Without major upgrades expected, the 2025 Prius will probably be priced just above the 2024 model. The regular Prius currently starts at $28,745 including destination and hits $35,760 for the Limited. The plug-in Prius Prime ranges from $33,770 to $40,465.
The Prius line competes with other compact hybrids like the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, the upcoming Honda Civic Hybrid, and Toyota’s own Corolla Hybrid.
