What To Expect
Vietnamese EV startup VinFast recently announced plans to bring their subcompact VF 3 SUV to the US. We’ve yet to see specs or an official release date, but here’s what we know about the all-new 2025 VinFast VF 3 so far.
VinFast’s foray into the American market hasn’t quite gone as planned. The reception of their debut VF 8 has been less than glowing, with numerous outlets reporting shoddy build quality, malfunctioning safety features, and an unpolished ride. That being said, the VF 3 has the potential to be much more appealing, given its cutesy looks, compact size, and more palatable starting price. Yahoo! Finance reports that VinFast is targeting a $20,000 MSRP for their entry-level model, which would make it the most affordable EV on the market.
The VF 3 was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, and while we didn’t get much in the way of specifications, we did get a good look at the diminutive SUV’s styling. The VF 3 is a departure from the flowing lines of the rest of the brand’s lineup. Instead, VinFast opted for an upright boxy look that mirrors the soon-to-be-discontinued Jeep Renegade and the oversees-only Suzuki Jimny. Other than its boxy charm, the VF 3’s defining characteristic is its size, or lack thereof. Yahoo! Finance reports that the VF 3 is just 125 inches long, meaning its entire body could fit within the wheelbase of full-size SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade ESV and the Ford Expedition MAX.
Electrek reports that reports that the international version of the VF 3 will be powered by a 32-kWh motor and an 18-kWh hour battery. Those figures would both be considered very small by American standards, so we might see the US-bound VF 3 arrive with a beefier powertrain. If we do indeed see the 18-kWh powertrain, the VF 3’s low cost of entry could still be appealing to city drivers.
2025 VinFast VF 3 Price & Release Date
As previously mentioned, VinFast is targeting a $20,000 starting price for the VF 3. That would make it the most affordable EV on the market, and one of the most affordable vehicles period. That being said, pricing projections like this have a history of being ambitious, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to be sure.
No official release date has been set, but VinFast is taking reservations later this year. We’re expecting to see them on dealer lots towards the end of the year.
