What To Expect

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas will likely continue unchanged following a major refresh for 2024. The recent update included a restyled front end, larger interior screens, and a more powerful standard engine to replace the previously optional V6. Volkswagen is said to be developing an all-new Atlas for the 2026 or 2027 model year, possibly incorporating electric propulsion.

The current Atlas seats seven across three rows and offers up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space, making it one of the most spacious vehicles in its class. The cabin features second-row captain’s chairs, a 12-inch touchscreen, a 10.3-inch instrument display, and wireless charging. Volkswagen also offers a two-row variant of the Atlas called the Atlas Cross Sport.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Engine & Specs

We expect the 2025 Atlas to retain the recently invigorated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which now makes 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is optional on the entry-level SE models and standard on subsequent trims. Every Atlas carries an eight-speed automatic transmission.

With the standard front-wheel drive setup, the Atlas is EPA-rated at 20 miler per gallon city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 combined. Each rating drops by 1 mpg with AWD. Properly equipped, the Atlas can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Safety

Like the current model, the 2025 Atlas will likely come with Volkswagen‘s IQ.Drive suite of safety technology. The system includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. More advanced features like automated parking and surround-view cameras will probably remain optional.

The current Atlas receives a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. IIHS rates the Atlas “Good” in most crash tests, though it received a “Marginal” score in the updated moderate overlap test.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Price

Volkswagen hasn’t released pricing yet, but we expect a modest bump in MSRP for 2025. The Atlas’s price tag currently starts at $39,075 including destination and reaches $53,805 for the fully loaded SEL Premium R-Line.

The Atlas competes with three-row crossovers like the Ford ExplorerMazda CX-90Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Release Date

According to Volkswagen’s latest press release, we expect the 2025 Atlas to arrive at dealers this September. We’ll report back with further updates on the upcoming Atlas closer to the release date.
