Volkswagen recently announced that the GLI will be refreshed for the 2025 model year. The high-performance variant of the compact Jetta sedan has existed in its current form since the 2019 model year, so we’re not surprised that the GLI is getting some updates. We haven’t seen a comprehensive release for the refreshed 2025 GLI yet, but here’s what we know so far.
The current GLI is modeled after the Jetta with the addition of performance-focused upgrades and styling cues. We expect the 2025 model to gain the same styling updates as the regular Jetta while continuing to feature improvements like larger wheels and tires, a lip spoiler, bigger brakes, and red accents. This trend should continue into the refreshed GLI’s interior. The current model shares a layout with the Jetta but adds ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, a 10.3″ digital gauge cluster, and a continuation of the aforementioned trim.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Volkswagen upgrades the GLI’s engine for 2025. The current model is powered by a derivative of the turbocharged 2.0L inline-four found in the GTI hot hatch. It develops 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in this application. The current GLI is offered with both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GTI and Golf R are only being offered with dual-clutch transmissions in 2025, so there’s a chance the GLI will lose its three-pedal option.
2025 Volkswagen GLI Price & Release Date
We’ll get a better idea of 2025 GLI pricing once we learn the comprehensiveness of the refresh. The current model starts at $30,310 and ranges up to $33,010. It’s worth noting that the entry-level 2024 GLI is the limited edition 40th Anniversary model, so the cost of entry will likely be in the $33,000-$35,000 range for 2025.
The 2025 GLI, along with the standard Jetta, is scheduled to be launched later this year.
The 2025 Volkswagen GLI will compete with the Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra N, and the Subaru WRX.
