Volkswagen hasn’t released all the details on the upcoming iteration of their flagship performance model, but it appears the 2025 Golf R will be receiving a refresh. We know that the manual transmission option will no longer be available for the 2025 model year, but we may see a couple of other tweaks as well. Here’s what we know so far about the refreshed 2025 Volkswagen Golf R.
While the standard Golf left the US market after the 2021 model year, but the GTI and high-performance Golf R are still going strong. We’ve seen some incremental changes to the Golf R since then, but the 2025 model year brings some more significant updates.
Volkswagen hasn’t officially revealed the 2025 Golf R in the US yet, but they did unveil the European model. The updated Golf R features revised headlights, an illuminated VW logo, and a tweaked front fascia. Also new for 2025 are the optional 19″ forged wheels, which are 20% lighter than those on the outgoing Golf R.
The European market 2025 Golf R gains 14 horsepower over the outgoing model to bring total output up to 329 hp. We might see a marginally different figure stateside, but we’re expecting the US market model to receive a power bump as well. The European market 2025 model also increased torque from 295 to 310 lb-ft, but US figures have yet to be finalized.
The 2025 GTI is getting some tweaks to its infotainment system, and those changes are making their way into the Golf R as well. The Golf R now features a 12.9″ touchscreen with an integrated voice assistant, which features ChatGPT AI software built-in.
2025 Volkswagen Golf R Price & Release Date
Pricing for the refreshed Golf R hasn’t been announced yet. 2024 Golf R pricing starts at $46,605, but we expect the 2025 model to get closer to the $50,000 mark.
The 2025 Volkswagen Golf R will compete with the Acura Integra Type S, Honda Civic Type R, and Toyota GR Corolla.
VW says the 2025 Golf R will go on sale in early 2025.
