Rivian R3
What To Expect
Rivian is set to expand its all-electric lineup with the all-new 2026 R3. The R3 and the performance-oriented R3X are set to arrive as Rivian’s entry-level models. Here’s what we know about the upcoming 2026 Rivian R3.
From a design standpoint, the 2026 Rivian R3 has a unique exterior design that resembles rally-ready hatchbacks from the ’80s instead of a traditional SUV. The R3 still has some hallmark Rivian traits like the rounded front end, vertically oriented daytime running lights, and horizontal light bar. At the back, the R3’s thick C-pillar, heavily sloping rear hatchback, large spoiler, and chunky bumper give it a sportier design than other Rivians.
On the inside, the 2026 Rivian R3 features a similar design to other all-electric Rivians. The rounded dashboard has a horizontal air vent that spans the full width of the dash, a prominent central touchscreen, and a small digital instrument cluster that’s recessed into the dash. The R3 looks like it comes with premium materials and the EV has sportier-looking seats than other Rivians.
Rivian hasn’t confirmed tech features for the 2026 R3 yet. Based on the pictures, the EV has a large central touchscreen and a small recessed digital instrument cluster. We expect a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, a wireless charging pad, a high-end audio system, and Amazon Alexa to be available.
2026 Rivian R3 Engine & Specs
We don’t know what kind of powertrains the 2026 Rivian R3 will come with. Since the R3 is based on the same platform as the R2, we expect both EVs to share similar powertrain configurations. If that holds true, the R3 should be available with three different layouts. The base R3 could come with a single electric motor, while all-wheel-drive models with dual electric motors and a tri-motor configuration should be available.
The R3 is also expected to share the same battery packs as the R2, which would bring up to 300 miles of range.
The R3X is expected to be the high-performance variant of the R3 and come with the tri-motor configuration. The R3X will also come with some extra performance features that include larger wheels and extra ground clearance.
2026 Rivian R3 Safety
The 2026 Rivian R3 is expected to come with an extensive list of standard safety features. The EV should come with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam assist.
2026 Rivian R3 Price
All Rivian has confirmed about the 2026 R3 is that it will cost less than the R2, which is expected to start at $45,000.
Competitors in the all-electric segment should include the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4, Subaru Solterra, and Tesla Model Y.
