Kia Niro
What To Expect
The 2025 Kia Niro will likely arrive without major changes following a total redesign in 2023. The subcompact SUV gives buyers a choice of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric power. The current Niro combines exceptional efficiency with expressive styling for this class.
The five-passenger interior is more spacious than the Niro’s tidy dimensions suggest. The second row offers 39.8 inches of legroom, and cargo space goes up to 63.7 cubic feet. The base model comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, digital instrumentation, and a six-speaker sound system. Most trims also carry automatic wipers, heated front seats, and a power driver seat. The upper trims get leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
2025 Kia Niro Engine & Specs
We expect the Niro’s electrified power plants to continue for 2025. The standard Hybrid model carries a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total of 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This setup delivers an EPA-estimated 53 miles per gallon combined on the base trim and 49 mpg on all others.
The Niro Plug-in Hybrid receives a larger battery and a bump to 180 hp and 195 lb-ft. The PHEV can travel up to 33 miles on electricity alone. EPA ratings work out to 108 MPGe combined when running on electricity and 48 mpg in hybrid mode. Both hybrid variants run with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Niro EV gets a single front motor with 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. The EV is rated at 113 MPGe and has an estimated range of 253 miles.
The current Niro lineup is front-wheel drive only. We don’t expect Kia to offer all-wheel drive anytime soon.
2025 Kia Niro Safety
Standard driver-assistance features will likely include lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors will probably remain optional. The plug-in and electric models are available with a semi-autonomous highway driving system that allows hands-free driving for brief stretches.
The current Niro receives a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. IIHS crash-test results are still pending.
2025 Kia Niro Price
Pricing will likely reflect a modest inflationary increase for 2025. The pricing for the Niro Hybrid currently starts at $28,315 including destination and reaches $36,715 in top SX Touring trim.
The Niro lineup competes with small hybrid and electric SUVs like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and Hyundai Kona Electric.
