The 2025 Hyundai Sonata is Toyota Camry and Honda Accord fighter. It’s offered as both a hybrid or a normal gas-powered sedan and comes with the option for either front- or all-wheel drive. The big news is that for 2024 the Sonata received a massive makeover that adds a little menace to the sedan that before had a somewhat frumpy-looking front end. The changes make it more handsome and daring, something sedans need to compete in a market that’s jam-packed with SUV-hungry shoppers. As a result of the big overhaul in 2024, the 2025 model year Sonata will likely remain very much unchanged.
2025 Hyundai Sonata Redesign
In a world where sedans are falling by the wayside, the Sonata faces limited competition. The Camry and Accord are both great options, but all of their best features and top trims must be had with a hybrid. The Kia K5 also gets a refresh for 2025, though some might think it’s not as sucessfully executed as the Hyundai’s was (at least, from an aesthetics point of view). We like the Sonata, and its recent makeover and potential performance on offer make it more appealing than most rivals.
Hyundai Sonata Interior
The Sonata’s interior gets a meaningful update for 2024. For starters, there’s a new steering wheel, dashboard, infotainment, and driver-info screens, as well as a completely revamped center console. The refreshed Sonata makes a larger effort to provide comfort by moving the gear selector to the steering column to allow for more storage and cupholder space than before. Home to many elbows, the center armrest gains an additional palm rest that gives the driver more room to relax. The updated materials expand across the dashboard and into the rear-passenger space making the Sonata look like an even better bargain than it was before.

2025 Hyundai Sonata Engine
While it’s not an out-and-out performance machine, the Sonata N Line, its top trim, comes with a juiced-up turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes a very healthy 290 horsepower. But that’s not all it gets. The N Line comes with every feature Hyundai is willing to throw at the Sonata from the start and performance that genuinely blows the competition away. If you want a surprisingly quick midsize sedan, the N Line is probably your best bet.

Much of the class has gone over to droning (but efficient) continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs). During our time with the Sonata hybrid, which pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a motor-generator that combines for 192 horses, we appreciated its fuel-saving efforts but disliked how it didn’t smoothly transition between gas and electric power sources. The 290-hp N Line is one of the quickest front-drive cars we’ve tested, and it provides a satisfying amount of driving verve. The N Line nailed 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, which is only a tenth slower than the Honda Civic Type R’s time.
Hyundai Sonata MPG
The Sonata is rated by the EPA for up to 44 mpg city and 51 mpg highway, but that’s for the hybrid model. Front-wheel drive nonhybrid Sonatas are rated for up to 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while the all-wheel drive option reduces that highway number slightly to 34 mpg.
