What To Expect

The Civic Type R tops Honda’s performance lineup. The second-generation model was introduced for the 2023 model year and is poised to carry into 2025 with no significant changes. Here’s what you need to know about the carryover 2025 Honda Civic Type R.

We expected the 2025 Civic Type R to arrive as a carryover model, and this was corroborated by a recent release from Honda. The hot hatch’s styling will continue unchanged, drawing from the standard Civic but complete with black trim, red badging, massive rear wing, and larger wheels and tires accompanied by fender flares. There’s no mistaking the Type R for a regular Civic or even an Si, but the second-generation model’s styling is considerably toned down from the polarizing FK8 model.

The Type R’s interior takes the regular Civic’s interior up several notches. The general layout is the same, with hexagonal faux vents and a 9″ touchscreen dominating the dashboard. However, the heavily bolstered red sport seats, performance gauge cluster, and faux carbon fiber accents make it apparent you’re not in any old Civic.

2025 Honda Civic Type R Engine & Specs

We’re not expecting any changes under the hood for 2025. The current Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that develops 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the hot hatch to 60 in just 4.9 seconds. Like the Civic Si, the Type R is only available with a six-speed manual transmission for optimal driving engagement.

The Type R comes standard with 19″ wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. Other performance-focused features include adaptive dampers, selectable drive modes, dual-pinion steering, Brembo four-piston brakes, limited-slip differential, and Honda’s LogR track data tracking system.

2025 Honda Civic Type R Price

Current Civic Type R pricing starts at $45,890. The Type R is only offered in one trim, and we expect the 2025 model to only see a small price increase. It’s worth noting that the 2024 model received a $1,000 price increase despite not getting any new equipment.

The 2025 Honda Civic Type R will compete with the Volkswagen Golf RHyundai Elantra NSubaru WRX, and the Toyota GR Corolla.

2025 Honda Civic Type R Release Date

Honda hasn’t announced a release date for the 2025 Civic Type R yet, but we expect it to arrive in the latter half of this year.
