Chevrolet Colorado What To Expect

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado will likely arrive with minor equipment adjustments only. Still fresh from a total redesign in 2023, the Colorado line regained the off-road ZR2 Bison Edition for 2024. Current trim levels and major equipment packages are expected to continue.

The Colorado is a midsize pickup with four doors and a 61.7-inch bed. The standard WT trim covers just the basics, while the LT adds popular convenience features and a full slate of options. The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 offer increasing levels of off-road capability and available interior upgrades.

All Colorado models carry an 11.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11-inch touchscreen, and wireless smartphone mirroring. Upscale options like ventilated front seats and leather upholstery are reserved for the Z71 and ZR2.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado Engine & Specs

We expect the WT and LT to retain their standard turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The optional high-output version of the 2.7-liter makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft — and is standard on the Trailboss, Z71, and ZR2. Both engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The WT and LT start with rear-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive is available with either engine. Subsequent trims come exclusively with 4WD and a two-speed transfer case. Models with the standard engine offer the highest efficiency in the line at 24 miles per gallon combined, according to EPA estimates. Efficiency slips as off-road hardware is added. The ZR2 Bison Edition, for example, earns only 16 mpg combined.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado Safety

The current Colorado offers a basic set of standard driver-assistance features, including automatic high beams, a following distance indicator, and automatic emergency braking. Everything else comes in a series of option packages, Buyers can add blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, surround-view cameras, and reverse automatic braking.

The Colorado carries a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. IIHS crash-test results are still pending.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado Price

Barring any last-minute equipment additions, we expect only a slight price increase for 2025. The current Colorado’s MSRP starts at $31,095 including destination and climbs to $48,395 for the ZR2 before options.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado Release Date

We anticipate the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado will arrive at dealers in December 2024. We’ll report back with further updates on the upcoming Colorado before the release date.

What’s New

Chevy’s mid-size Colorado truck is reborn for 2023, from a reconfigurable bed to new trim levels. The interior has also been radically redesigned, with twin 11-inch screens in some models and upgraded safety tech. The range now encompasses five trims, two versions of the same engine, and a choice of drivetrains.

Choosing Your Chevrolet Colorado

If you’re willing to accept a two-wheel drive, the Colorado range starts at $33,995 (all prices include destination) for a WT. Adding AWD to WT and LT models costs $3,300, while an uprated engine increases the cost by around $2,000. Other models are available exclusively with AWD and the more powerful engine, while a flagship ZR2 will set you back $48,295. Unlike many rival trucks, there’s only one combination of cab and bed offered – Crew Cab Short Box.

Engine Choices

Every Colorado is fitted with a 2.7-liter turbocharged gas engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and is available in two states of tune. The more affordable version generates 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, you could choose a tweaked version producing 310 hp and 430 lb-ft in ZR2 guise – other models make do with a slightly lower output of 391 lb-ft.

Fuel economy figures are not published for the Colorado.

Engine Type Horsepower Torque
2.7 turbo 237 hp 260 lb-ft
2.7 turbo 310 hp 391 lb-ft (LT/WT/Trail Boss/Z71)

430 lb-ft (ZR2)

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

Cargo capacity for the five-seater Colorado stands at 41.9 cu ft, with the cargo box measuring 61 inches in length.

Safety Features

Trucks have often lagged behind passenger vehicles for safety, but the all-new Colorado breaks with tradition. Even base WT models come with seven airbags, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist and departure warnings, forward collision alert, and a following distance indicator. Indeed, there are no significant improvements in safety kits on higher trims, though features like active steering and parking assistance have to be added as options even on premium models.

2024 Chevrolet Colorado Dimensions & Cargo Capacity

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is offered in a single, “crew cab” and “short” (61.7-inch) bed with an overall length of about 213 inches. Due to the standard two-inch suspension lift, the Trail Boss and ZR2, present a ground clearance height of 10.7 inches and a height of 80 inches. Their width of 78 inches is a significant five inches greater than a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, for those who frequent tightly spaced trails.

The large footprint provides room for five, although those in the back are afforded just 34.7 inches of rear legroom.
